i guess it would sound a little strange to say i found him charming even as he said those things right

Well, Grumpy would often insult me to my face as well, but I knew that I just needed to keep being kind and I would earn his respect in return.

But my goodness, who is this person you find charming?

[ Maybe Chizuru should realise this definitely isn't the person she intended to text - after all, that person never writes like this.

But she's so caught up in what she's talking about that she doesn't realise quite yet she managed to reach entirely the wrong person. ]

i am not sure if i have earned his respect or anything like that though
he does not seem easily impressed
i mostly just hope that he thinks as kindly of me deep down as i think of him

Simply because one is not easily impressed does not mean they think unkindly of someone, dear. I'm sure that your Souji Okita does not think of you harshly.

If you had a sense that he was not serious about, maybe you already knew it.

maybe more so than knowing it i might have been hoping for it

[ That feels more reasonable to Chizuru. Imagining that she might know something without another person saying so themselves - it feels a little rude, and also presumptuous if she were to do so. ]

i really do not think i am smart enough to fully figure out what other people are thinking

Don't worry, I'm not smart enough for it either. But! That is why I ask directly. There's no room for misunderstanding that way.

Besides, you aren't in charge of what other people think, only what you think.

well the problem with some people is that even if you ask them directly they may not give you a direct answer in return
or they may just not be honest

he is definitely one of those people
despite seeming very straightforward i am fairly sure he has never once in his life been honest when he was fond of someone

Oh, I know those types.[Her stepmother and, to a lesser degree, Grumpy, were a lot like that.] But they do say actions speak louder than words.

Perhaps he felt he couldn't be honest without feeling teased.

I think those sorts believe everyone is the sort, regardless of whether they actually are.

constantly worrying about the worst from the other people around you
it sounds kind of sad

i am glad you are not that sort of person

Oh, no, I try to think everyone has the very best of intentions! If you have high expectations, I often find people rise to meet them!
